The Ancient Faith

Doctrinal Issues

Doctrine is important.  The “about three thousand” who were baptized in Jerusalem “persevered in the apostles’ doctrine” (Acts 2:42).  Indeed, our fellowship with God and with one another is contingent upon our abiding in Christ’s doctrine (John 9-11).  Thus, every Christian should “adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things” (Titus 2:10).  Truly, only when we clothe ourselves with the doctrine of Christ will we be saved.

This video sermon entitled “Innovations in Doctrine” was originally broadcast on the Let the Bible Speak program c.1965. The host was brother Ronny Wade. We hope you enjoy this timely  presentation regarding two specific doctrinal innovations, namely, “salvation by faith only,” and the Calvinist teaching of “once saved, always saved.”   (For more videos like this one, visit https://letthebiblespeak.tv/).

The Ancient Faith website is a thematic collection of scholarly yet simple Bible essays and sermons, many of which were composed by Restoration preachers such as J.W. McGarvey, Moses Lard, Benjamin Franklin, and Alexander CampbellThese courageous men of faith through hours of Bible investigation studied themselves out of denominationalism, asking for “the old paths” (Jer. 6:16) and seeking to return to “the faith once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). We join with these men in their fervent plea to restore “the ancient order,” “the ancient gospel” or, as it was sometimes called, “the ancient faith.”
